How My Stroke Is A Blessing-Part 1
“Sir, can you hear me?” “What is your name?”
“Stev…….en…….Ken…..dall,” I said, with great effort.
“Can you understand me, sir?”
“Qui, je comprend,” I replied.
“Is he speaking in French?” asked one of the paramedics.
It was after this exchange with the emergency personnel when I realized that I was unable to speak in English without long pauses between each word.
I was able to speak a few words and phrases I learned from taking French in college over 3o years ago.
I was sitting on the living room floor of our apartment, able to understand everything that was said to me, but only able to speak without difficulty in French.
In the emergency room I continued to answer questions in the few French words and phrases that I could still remember.
Once this bout of "expressive aphasia," as it is called, passed after two hours and my language skills returned, several doctors and nurses remarked that I looked happy and told them I was. I said, "It's a blessing this happened so that you all can hopefully find out what's wrong because this also happened to me 10 years ago…To be continued

Recommended Bible Study Resources: Sept. 10, 2008
1.Institute of Biblical Greek: http://www.biblicalgreek.org
2. Oneplace.com - Audio sermons online:
OnePlace.com is a site which features audio sermons from a wide variety preachers. I go to this site to listen to some of my favorites, including Pastor Paul Sheppard, and Dr. Tony Evans.
This site is useful as I am able to learn about and listen to pastors not heard on the radio in my local area.
OnePlace.com also offers a number of other Bible study resources including devotionals, PodCasts of popular programs, articles and ministry newsletters.
The Ancient Greek Word of the Week is: "Koine"
Koine, as defined and pronounced by the Merriam-Webster online dictionary: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/koine
Daniel B. Wallace has a nice, short history of Koine Greek at: http://www.bible-history.com/quotes/daniel_b_wallace_1.html
On today's show, I read from the resource book, "1,001 Things You Always Wanted to Know About the Bible But Never Thought to Ask" by J. Stephen Lang
Please let me know of any Bible study resources that you use so that I may post them on this blog.

BibleStudyCafe.com Show: Sept. 4 Resources
1. BibleGateway.com, which allows one to research Bible verses in many versions, and conduct all types of Biblical research.
2. Rick Renner Ministries' Sparkling Gems from the Greek: I became interested in learning more about the koine (common) Greek language, with which much of the New Testament was originally written in, thanks to the weekly Bible study led by my Pastor, Dr. Lucius M. Dalton, Senior Pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
Learning the meaning behind the Greek words of the New Testament really provides me with a deeper understanding of the Bible.
I recommend the Web site, Renner.org from Rick Renner Ministries. Renner's site offers a Greek word of the week, which Renner refers to as the Sparkling Gem of the Week. Renner also has a book and CD called Daily Sparkling Gems from the Greek, each of which contain his complete collection of lessons about New Testament Greek.
You can sign up for Rick Renner's mailing lists, including one that delivers a Greek word to your inbox several days a week.
3. The BibleStudyCafe, Ancient Greek word of the week is Gnosis, which means "knowledge"
The definition of Gnosis from bible.crosswalk.com:
1. the general knowledge of Christian religion2. the deeper more perfect and enlarged knowledge of this religion
An example can be found in Romans 11:33 from BibleGateway.com: "Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!" (New International Version)

BibleStudyCafe.com Show: Aug. 28 Resources
1. Pastor A.R. Bernard's show, "Faith in Practice."
2. Dr. David Jeremiah's "Turning Point" radio sermon series on the Holy Spirit.
3. The Ancient Greek word of the week is Dunamis. The definition provided by CrossWalk.com (http://bible.crosswalk.com) is strength power, ability
- inherent power, power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature, or which a person or thing exerts and puts forth
- power for performing miracles
The phrase "unusual miracles" is "dunamis" in the Ancient Greek.
The modern day word "dynamite" from dunamis.
